COURSE REQUIREMENTS


No previous winter experience is needed for this course. However, you do need a degree of fitness particularly travelling uphill to get the most out of the programme.

MOUNTAIN LEADER AWARD (ML) 

When you want to lead parties in mountainous terrain such as the Lake District, Scotland, and North Wales, this course is perfect for you. We also offer the Walking Group Leader Award (WGL), which is aimed at those who are leading groups in the hills on non-mountainous terrain such as the moors. We also provide a guiding service so that you can enjoy and access some of the classic climbs and scrambles of the Lake District.

DAY ONE OF OUR WINTER SKILLS COURSE INCLUDES:

Walking on Snow and Ice, Using Crampons, Step Cutting, Ice Axe Braking, Basic Avalanche Awareness

INTRODUCTION TO LEADING TRAD ROUTES

This particular course looks at the essential techniques and skills that limit risks to the 'new' leader. You should leave feeling confident and ready to tackle single-pitch climbs without supervision. The programme looks at:
Choice of Equipment, Judgment of Anchors Both Main And Running Gear Placements, Belaying Techniques

CLIMBING OUTDOORS TASTERS

Within this course, you get a chance to experience 'real' climbing while being introduced to safe techniques such as belaying and rope work. You are also offered guidance on the most appropriate equipment to obtain if you would like to pursue the sport further. We visit crags and rock faces of a single-pitch character appropriate to your set of abilities. Your safety is paramount!


Course Length- Half a Day Day Sessions: 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.Day Sessions: 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Venue: North East Cost: From £35 per Person, Minimum Four People(Group Rates Can Be Negotiated)

Learn to Navigate /Map Read 


(Beginner and Intermediate)
Our navigation courses are based in the North Yorkshire moors or the Lake District National Park. If you have done some hill walking in the past, but you don't feel confident navigating or haven't navigated at all, our two-day beginner’s navigation course on the North Yorkshire Moors gives you plenty of practice.



When you have experience in navigating, however you would like to learn more or perhaps you struggle in poor visibility conditions such as low clouds or mist, our two-day map-reading course provides you with the knowledge and practice to give you more confidence in daunting situations. You get plenty of opportunities to practise these new skills on a variety of terrain in both the North Yorkshire Moors and the Lake District.


Course Length: Two Days  Staff Ratio: 1:6 (Minimum Two People) Venue: North Yorkshire/Lake District Cost: £130 (Minimum Two People)

MULTI PITCH


Along with guiding you up some of the classic routes, this programme is able to be tailored to meet your individual needs. We offer instruction in rope work, stance management, and route finding as part of a vast selection of handy skills. You can expect a very intensive course with a staff to client ratio of 1:2, which offers a valuable learning experience. Usually based in the Lake District, accommodation is provided at a small cost. The option to find your own accommodation is also available.
